Future-Call-Project – cultural synergies in dealing with critical incidents

The aim of the project is the European-wide use of cultural synergies in dealing with critical incidents in areas safety sensitive like air traffic control, patient's care safety and military operations. Three synergies should be used:

1. Learning from other nations

2. Learning from other industries (up to now air traffic control, patient's safety, military missions)

3. Development of concepts to the concerted proceeding in regard to cross-national crises

In case of a cross-national crisis people with varying nationalities are involved and have to be attended to. An example for that is the airplane collision near Überlingen, during which a Danish air traffic controller operating for the Swiss air navigation service provider skyguide, co-ordinated flights in German airspaces sectors, which were delegated to the swiss air traffic controlSkyguide. After the disaster of Überlingen, Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) was successfully conducted on a cross-national basis. Hence, CISM is the crisis intervention method – with the knowledge of Überlingen in mind – which in this project will be the link between the nations and industries. CISM is a quality assured method to deal with critical events. It is applied by all project partners, although, in culturally adapted forms. The project will document these cultural adaptations in terms of synergy 1 at national level and in terms of synergy 2 at branch level. Best practices will be identified. In terms of synergy 3 a common a approach will be derived to cope with cross-national critical events. The project aims at the cross section activity integration and interoperation of security systems in the subject 10 security of the FP7.
